263. How Prioritize Time, Money And Energy In Christian Dementia Caregiving
Friday Jun 27, 2025
Friday Jun 27, 2025
Linda reheats her coffee three times; John skips lunch again; Maria hasn’t opened her Bible in a week because the pillbox, insurance forms, and laundry shout louder. Episode 263 meets caregivers right there—in the blur of unfinished tasks—and offers a compass: the 4D Method™ (Do, Delay, Delete, Delegate).
The Wake-Up Statistic
Lizette reminds us that 30 percent of caregivers die before the one they serve. That sobering number reframes stewardship from “extra credit” to “critical obedience.” God has entrusted us with two lives—our loved ones’ and our own.
1️⃣ DO—The Non-Negotiables
• Daily meds
• Essential hygiene
• Prayer and Scripture (your lifeline)
When time is short, choose what only you can do and what God explicitly commands.
2️⃣ DELAY—Good, Not Urgent
The attic purge can wait. Christmas cards can become New Year notes. Proverbs 16 : 9 allows margin: “The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps.”
3️⃣ DELETE—When “Yes” Steals Shalom
Lizette pauses hospitality ministry and nursery duty—without guilt—because stewardship changes with seasons. Jesus didn’t heal every leper in Galilee; neither must you chair every committee.
4️⃣ DELEGATE—A Biblical Example
Early church leaders appointed deacons so they could focus on prayer and the Word (Acts 6). Likewise, hiring a housekeeper or asking a church teen to mow the lawn is not extravagance; it’s aligning roles with reality.
The Question That Guides the 4D Choices
“Let’s say it is six months from today and your caregiving journey is easier. What does that look like for you?”
Heaven-breathed clarity flows from that unchanged question. Easier might mean:
• One regular respite weekend booked
• Budget set aside for meal kits
• A guilt-free afternoon nap each Sunday
Guilt Is a False Prophet
Guilt says, “If you love them, you’ll do it all.” The Gospel says, “Christ already did it all.” Romans 8 : 1 silences the accuser: “There is therefore now no condemnation.”
Your 24-Hour Assignment
Write today’s task list.
Mark each item Do, Delay, Delete, or Delegate.
Share one Delegate with a friend, spouse, or church deacon before bedtime.
Faithful stewardship isn’t heroic multitasking; it’s humble obedience. The 4D Method™ simply turns that obedience into a daily rhythm—so when caregiving ends, you’ll still have energy, resources, and worship left for the chapter God writes next.
“Teach us to number our days…”—and to steward them, too.
